The new namespace of .berlin domain names will create local identity for Berlin's community on the Internet. Through the localized .berlin URLs information from administration, business, science, culture, sports, welfare and from citizens will be intuitively available for providers, customers and visitors.

Our project will contribute to raise awareness on locations with the name Berlin nationally and internationally and will position especially the German capital Berlin as attractive location and dynamic metropolis nationally and internationally. The .berlin top level domain is supported by a multiplicity of companies, associations and citizens.

The .berlin top level domain will not only release a positive multifaceted pulse for locations with the name Berlin, it will also bring Berlin's inhabitants, culture, business, innovational energy and internationality closer to other people worldwide.

The .berlin project is based on the community of Berliners and recognizes their interests worldwide. The basis of Berlin's community are people which identify themselves with the name Berlin. The complex structure of the Berlin community includes especially

• inhabitants of locations with the name Berlin worldwide,
• people which are born in locations with the name Berlin,
• people which work, live nearby, or feel associated to a locations with the name Berlin,
• people with private, social, cultural, or other relations to locations with the name Berlin, e.g. relatives,
• organisationen with cultural, economic, or other relations to a locations with the name Berlin, * partner cities of locations with the name Berlin and their inhabitants.

dotBERLIN GmbH & Co. KG was founded in July 2005. The company's aim is to launch and operate of the top level domain .berlin. The .berlin top level domain (TLD) will be an autonomous domain extension like .de or .com and is estimated to be available in 2007. Our company dotBERLIN is inventor of the .berlin TLD and will create the basis for citizens, companies, institutions and other organisations to register their individual .berlin domain name.

dotBERLIN is based on partners which represent the Berlin community, the partners are organisations or individuals from administration, business, science, welfare, culture, sports and the civil society. These partners are associations, councils, chambers, societies, foundations, companies, other organisations and individual citizens from a location with the name Berlin. They are the sponsoring community of the .berlin TLD.

An advisory board with representatives from the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, academic organisations, justice and the Internet community of Berlin will support and consult dotBERLIN in topics like registrations guidelines and allocation of domain names.

Our mission is to support the manifold interests of the Berlin community by the top level domain .berlin and to give Berlin's citizens, their companies and organisations and the city of Berlin a local identity on the Internet.
