>What do people want?
Patrick Vande Walle: ISOC includes large corporations and 25,000 individuals.
Users want many and few things.
- They want DNS to work.
- They want search engines to work.
- They want governance to work, but they may not know about it. So these are things we need to help plan for them.
- Privacy can change due to regional norms.
Didier Kasole:
Afralo only represents the countries who have signed agreements with ICANN.
There needs to be more participation and collaboration.
Alan Greenberg:
- Access and speed.
- They want consistency.
- They don’t want spam or phishing.
- They want safety and practicality.
- People really don’t care, they just want the Internet to work.
Wolf Ludwig:
Do expectations differ across regions? Not really. What I wonder are who the users are. People are happy if, on a day-to-day basis, everything works.
The key, or our key, is to raise awareness among users.
There is confusion about the Internet due to the growing and various aspects of media outlets.
Debates tend to be technical and not political enough.
We have to organize users within Europe and have a debate with them as, not only will this raise awareness, it will also help yield what people want.
Paul Twomey:
Users are looking for dialogue on a local and global level. We are looking for partnership and interaction, something people don’t expect from newspapers.
Chris Disspain:
Some feel the Internet is run by governments.
Cheryl Langdon-Orr:
The main issues are:
- Language
- Cultural
- Connectivity
Avri Doria:
Are users passionate abut new gTLDs? What we want is based upon what we have had in the past. However we want things better.
Wolf Ludwig:
ICANN’s focus has been multi-constituency and not multi-stakeholder.
ICANNwiki: An industry resource fostering global collaboration and transparency within the ICANN community
