ICANN Vancouver Recap
ICANN WIKI made its debut in at the Vancouver conference and we are pleased to report that adoption by the community was super. There are now articles on topics such as parked domain monetization and consensus polling, as well as 48 blogs, 94 companies and 383 people.
On days 1 and 2, we were able to explain how the wiki worked to 40 and 60 people respectively. On day 3, 180 people elected to be in the system. With 728 attendees, our coverage was roughly half. There have been over 90,000 page views to date and people are not only using, but contributing to the site on a regular basis.
One important decision that we made at the conference was to finalize our commitment to creative commons licensing. In particular, we chose the attribution non-commercial version 2.5 of the license which means that anyone can use and repackage the content without permission, so long as attribution is given and the use is non-commercial. We felt that this would encourage people to contribute, as every contribution to the wiki is a gift to the community and the resource will remain open and equally shared.
Very special acknowledgement is due to the 15 sponsors who for the most part pledged $2,000 each and in some cases contributed help in other ways. ICANN WIKI is an experiment in public collaboration and supporting this new initiative was both generous and forward thinking -- Thank you.
