Wellington: Cafes and Light meals

Jump to: navigation, search

There are a few cafes within 2 mins walk from the convention centre and cafe, thus making it suitable for quick meal breaks. As you come out of the convention centre there's a traffic light pedestrian crossing. Most of these places should have a selection for vegetarians.

  • The Lido at the corner of Wakefield and Victoria Sts, is only slightly further along.

On the same side as the convention centre, if you walk towards Victoria St, you'll find a cafe

  • Next to the Visitor Information Centre
  • By the entry to the Wellington Public Library (go up half or one level from the street).

The Nikau Cafe at the City Gallery is just across the Civic Square (opposite Town Hall) .

If you don't mind a slightly further walk(no more than 5 mins), head for Manners Mall. It is on the next street (parrallel to Wakefield St). Cross Wakefield St at the traffic light pedestrian crossing in front of the convention centre. Walk down that road until you reach Burger King. Turn right into Cuba Mall. You'll find

  • AbraKebabra (kebabs)
  • Daawat (indian). Daawat (indian) has a lunch menu where vegetarian mains are $7.50 each and meat mains are $8.95 each. Daawat has good food. The website leaves much to be desired. It is able to cope with large groups. It is also open for dinner.
  • Crepe-a-gogo, a crepe (french pancake) stall. They makes fresh sweet or savoury crepes to go. The savoury crepes are made with buckwheat batter. Prices start from $3.50
  • There's also fastfood chains like McDs, Burgerking, and KFC.
