- Te Papa Tongarewa, the Museum of New Zealand
- Open 10 am until 6 pm, with a late night on Thursday (10 am until 9 pm)
- Entry is FREE
- Special current exhibits: Splendours of Japan and Precious Metals
- There are also exhibits about the geological forces that shape New Zealand’s landscape, the tangata whenua (first discoverers of Aotearoa New Zealand), and New Zealand's diverse animals and plants.

- Entry is FREE (free most of the time but charges may apply to certain galleries if it is a major exhibition)

There are free Explore Wellington brochures showing routes for walks around Wellington city. 2 hour walk and other walks. Pop into the Visitor Info centre at the corner of Wakefield and Victoria St. They will have the route maps etc for free.
