Asmus Freytag is a software internationalization architecture consultant and a long-time contributor to the development of the [[Unicode]] Standard. He was involved in the founding of the [[Unicode Consortium]].
==Career History==
Freytag was a Technical Vice President of the Unicode Consortium and its principal liaison to the working group of ISO/IEC JTC1 SC2. He served a term as president of the Association for Font Information Interchange and a board member of [[ASCENT]]. At [[Microsoft]], he spearheaded the adoption of Unicode by Windows NT and encouraged independent software vendors to support the standard. He joined the I18N Directorate that advises [[IETF]] Area Directors on [[IDN]]s and other [[I18N]] issues.

Freytag helped develop the "Procedure to Develop and Maintain the Label Generation Rules for the Root Zone in Respect of IDNA Labels". He also co-authored two RFCs: "Representing Label Generation Rules in XML" (RFC 7940) and "Guidelines for Designing Label Generation Rules Supporting Variants" (RFC 8228).
