The Federation of Belgian ISP's [[ISPA]] asked him to join the board in 1999. In 2000, he was elected as Vice-President, a position he held until the moment he left [[XS4ALL]] in July.

By the end of 2000, he started offering his services as independent strategic consultant at different major Belgian and international Internet and telecom investment companies. Beginning in 2001, he supported [[CBel]] with the launch of the housing and co-location project Rack66. In 2002 he was co-founder of the Belgian Internet Broadband Applications Platform, which began as an initiative of the Belgian Ministry of Telecommunications, with the main goal to foster broadband development in Belgium. In September, 2003, he was elected secretary.
