Baher Esmat is the Vice President of Stakeholder Engagement for the Middle East and the Managing Director of the Regional Office for the Middle East and Africa (MEA) in Istanbul for ICANN.[1]
In November 2012, he was promoted from Manager of Regional Relations with the Middle East to his current position, which reports to Sally Costerton and is part of CEO Fadi Chehadé's goal to expand ICANN outreach and involvement to the developing world and improve the international makeup of the organization.[2]
Esmat is a former member of the WSIS Working Group on Internet Governance (WGIG), and served as Chair of the Egyptian IPv6 Task Force before he joined ICANN. His areas of interest include Internet policies relative to ICANN's authority regarding DNS and IP addresses, and areas like access, mobility, and security.[3]

He received a bachelor's degree in Electronics and Communications Engineering from Cairo University in 1993, and a master's degree in Computer Science from the American University in Cairo in 1999. [4]
Career History[edit | edit source]
Baher joined ICANN in February 2006. From 2002 to 2006, he served at various positions within the Egyptian Ministry of Communications and Information Technology; including the Telecom Planning Manager, where his responsibilities included projects relating to infrastructure and service development.
He has also worked as a Systems Consultant at Newbridge Networks / Alcatel.
