.net is a generic top-level domain (gTLD) in the Internet Domain Name System managed and operated by Verisign, a recognized leader in internet security and performance structure.[1]
In 1985,tThe .net TLD was added to original domain names (.com, .edu, .gov, .mil. .org) by the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) which was lead by Jon Postel during that time. The .net TLD was originally intended for the use of network providers only however, it is no longer restricted and anyone can register a .net domain name.
