.es is the ccTLD for Spain. The letters "es" come from España, the country's name in the original language. It is managed by Red.es.[1]

Rules and Restrictions[edit | edit source]

To register a .es domain name, the registrant, to the best of their knowledge, is aware if the use of the domain name does not violate the rights of third parties. One is also aware and accepts that the assignment of the .es domain name entails submission to the out-of-court dispute resolution procedure on the use of domain names in relation to industrial property rights protected in Spain, such as trade names, registered trademarks, designations of origin, company names; or in relation to the official or generally recognized names of Spanish public entities, in compliance with the procedure set forth in the regulations for out-of-court dispute resolution procedure regarding the use of .es, domain names, published on the website "www.dominios.es".[2]

Characters[edit | edit source]

The characters allowed for a .es domain name are:

  • those in the Spanish alphabet: from “a” to “z”;
  • numbers from 0 to 9;
  • the dash: “-” (Cannot be the first or last character in the name);
  • multilingual letters: "á, à, é, è, í, ï, ó, ò, ú, ü, ñ, ç, l·l".

There is no distinction between upper and lower case.

The maximum and minimum lengths of a domain name are:

  • for second level domains, a maximum of 63 and a minimum of 3;
  • for third level domains, a maximum of 63 and a minimum of 2.[3]
