.barcelona is a geographical TLD proposed in ICANN's New gTLD Program. The applicant is the City of Barcelona, and its application is a [[Community TLD|Community Priority Application.[1]

"The .barcelona TLD application is submitted by the City Council of Barcelona on behalf of the .barcelona community, and will serve the needs of the .barcelona community, comprising individuals with residence in the City of Barcelona and legal entities with a bona fide presence, direct or indirect, in the Barcelona area or in Barcelona as the capital of Catalonia."

Registrants will have to submit a statement of intent upon registration; a false statement is grounds for termination of the domain and future participation in the .barcelona TLD. "After the launch phase, the validation mode goes from pre-validation to post-validation, with statistically targeted random validation, backed up by an ongoing enforcement program."[2]
