.desi is a new TLD in ICANN's New gTLD Program. The string was originally applied for by both Afilias and Desi Networks, though the latter prevailed in a August 2013 auction held by Innovative Auctions. The total amount was not disclosed though the 8 total auctions were cumulatively valued at $9.65 million.[1] The proposed application succeeded and was delegated to the Root Zone on 10 April 2014.[2]
Contract Signed
On 14 November 2013, Desi Networks LLC received a Registry Agreement signed by ICANN for .bargains after passing all the required processes needed to become a Registry Operator for the string.[3]
Delegation and Availability
.desi was delegated to the Root Zone of the DNS on 10 April, 2014, completing the successful application for the string.[2] DESI Landrush started August 26, 2014 and the landrush period runs until September 26, 2014 [1]; go live started October 06, 2014 (more info).
.DESI, a further new TLD using the registry system of the KSregistry GmbH as technical framework, is the only domain focused on uniting the global community of desis.
