Application Details

The following is excerpted from the applicant's response to question #18:

"The mission⁄purpose of the .doha TLD is to promote the city of Doha including its residents, culture, events, commerce, institutions and landmarks by creating a dedicated, authoritative online space for the exclusive use of entities affiliated with the State of Qatar and Doha City. These entities include, but are not limited to, government departments, ministries and Supreme Councils of the State of Qatar, in their capacity as chief advocates for promoting the city of Doha and for the benefit of all residents of Doha.

The .doha TLD will establish an online brand identity which reflects the religious and cultural ethos underpinning the city of Doha and its people. It will serve as a modern method of communication for government-affiliated entities seeking to promote the city of Doha by establishing official and authoritative channels for online communication. This function of the TLD is consistent with the city of Doha’s status as a global leader in innovation and growth, ensuring Doha’s online presence is capable of fulfilling the needs of its growing population and an ever-changing, ever-expanding internet landscape.

The applicant, the Supreme Council of Information and Communication Technology (ictQATAR), connects people to the technologies that enrich their lives, drives economic development and inspires confidence in the future. ictQATAR is entrusted with two primary functions: firstly, as the country’s independent and fair regulator of the telecommunications market, and secondly, as the government body that nurtures innovative technologies to benefit those who live and work in Qatar. As such, the operation of the .doha TLD as the authoritative online space for promoting the city of Doha is within the ambit of ictQATAR’s second function.

All domain name registrations in the .doha TLD will be registered to, and maintained by, ictQATAR for the exclusive use of ictQATAR and its Affiliates (as defined in Article 2.9(c) of the Registry Agreement). ictQATAR will not sell, distribute or transfer control or use of any registration in the TLD to any third party that is not an Affiliate of ictQATAR. Entities affiliated with the State of Qatar such as government departments, ministries and Supreme Councils of the State of Qatar are recognised as Affiliates of ictQATAR .

Each affiliated entity may be granted use of an associated .doha domain name, to promote the city of Doha by establishing official and authoritative channels of online communication. As the sole registrant, ictQATAR, will ensure that the content and use of all .doha domain names by these entities is consistent with the mission⁄purpose of the TLD. The use of .doha domain names will be granted subject to acceptable use policies, including terms that ensure that domain names are used only to promote the mission⁄purpose of the .doha TLD."
