.film is a new generic top level domain name (gTLD) proposed to ICANN by the Film Registry, Inc. The company plans to restrict the registrations of .film domain names to film industry professional and legitimate owners of film titles. The gTLD will also be utilized to solve problems related to film piracy and copyright infringement, provide an intuitive and easy to navigate domain name system and to preserve the legacy of film libraries in perpetuity. AusRegistry was selected by Film Registry, Inc. to provide registry services for the .film domain space. [1]

The dot Film Registration Bureau will be responsible in the application and delegation process of domain names. It will also serve as an independent body to handle dispute resolution process for the domain space. The dot Film Registration Bureau will be lead by a president to be appointed by the president of the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) while its member constituents will be come from every affiliated film industry body.[2]
