.film is a new generic top level domain name (gTLD) proposed to ICANN's New gTLD Program.
Applicant
- Motion Picture Domain Registry Pty Ltd- This is an Australian based company that applied for .film and .movie. ARI Registry Services is the registry provider. Simon Delzoppo is the listed contact person.[1]
- Donuts (Outer Avenue, LLC)- This is one of the 307 new gTLDs filed by the company. Outer Avenue LLC is also one of the companies created by Donuts to submit its applications. Daniel Schindler, co-founder and EVP for Marketing and Sales, is the main contact person. Demand Media will provide back-end registry services for the Donuts. [2]
- Google (Charleston Road Registry Inc.)- The search engine giant submitted applications for 101 new gTLDs. Sarah Falvey, Senior Policy Analyst of Google is the main contact person for the application.[3]
- The Film Registry Inc.,the company plans to restrict the registrations of .film domain names to film industry professional and legitimate owners of film titles. The company also aims to utilize the TLD to solve problems related to the film industry, including piracy and copyright infringement; to provide an intuitive and easy to navigate domain name space; and to preserve the legacy of film libraries in perpetuity. AusRegistry was selected by Film Registry to provide registry services for the .film domain space.[4] The company also created a dot Film Title Registration Bureau, which will be responsible for administering the registration and delegation process of domain names. It will also serve as an independent body to handle dispute resolution processes for the domain space. The dot Film Registration Bureau will be lead by a president to be appointed by the president of the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) while its member constituents will be come from affiliated film industry bodies.[5] The Film Registry Inc. is not included in the official list of applicants for .film.
