Application Details

The following is excerpted from the applicant's response to question #18:

"GMO Internet Group is “Japan’s leading All-in Provider of Internet Services”. Headquartered in Tokyo, Japan, the Group comprises 84 companies and 2,300 employees in 8 countries, operating in four business segments; Web Infrastructure & Ecommerce, Internet Media, Internet Securities and Social Media & Smartphone Platform. Various group brands hold the leading market share in the domestic domain registration, web hosting, ecommerce and payment gateway solutions, and online FX trading service markets. At the core of the group is GMO Internet, Inc. a company listed on the first section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange (TSE:9449) in Japan.

As the operator of the first-ever ICANN accredited registrar in Asia, and the first Internet startup ever to be publicly listed in Japan, GMO Internet has a long history in the industry and well understands the branding power of a strong domain, and as the Group continues to broaden its service offering for global markets, the company sees the .GMO TLD as a key aspect of its global online brand strategy.

Registration Eligibility Domain name registrations for .GMO will be limited to the following organizations:

  1. GMO Internet, Inc.
  2. Companies listed on the asset securities reports of GMO Internet, Inc.
  3. Unconsolidated subsidiaries of GMO Internet, Inc.
