.iinet is a proposed Brand gTLD in ICANN's new gTLD program, which is being submitted by the Australian telco iiNet. Commenting on the program and iiNet's plans, the Operations Manager said it was relatively cheap way to secure a part of the internet.[1]
iiNet is Australia's second largest DSL ISP. It employs 2,000 people in 4 countries and supports 1.3 million services across Australia. The company was started in 1993, and it is a publicly listed company.[2]
