.osaka is a proposed new gTLD in ICANN's new gTLD program. It has been approved by the government of the Japanese Prefecture of Osaka, which has written letters of endorsement for four potentially competitive entities to apply for and manage the extension. Those companies approved by the government of Osaka are GMO Registry, Interlink (parent company of UrbanBrain, BusinessRalliart, and Future Spirits.[1] It is unclear whether each company intends to apply, although GMO Registry was the first to promote their potential bid and the letter of approval.[2]
