.victoria was discussed as a possible new geoTLD in ICANN's new gTLd program. The government of the Australian state of Victoria issued an RFP after declaring in interest in the TLD, and selected ARI Registry Services to provide the technical registry functions for its extension. It is also working with Melbourne IT for other new gTLD consultancy. The extension is associated with bids for other Australian cities, .melbourne, and .sydney, which are working with the same teams.

While the Government of Victoria did apply for .melboune, no such application was submitted for .victoria.[1][2]
