Alain Berranger (Died Dec 2013)[1] was Executive-in-residence at Schulich School of Business at York U., Toronto, Ontario. Much of his career was focused on international development, and he worked with aid agencies, management and engineering consulting firms, and the private sector.
Mr. Berranger described himself as "actively retired" and had conducted assignments for Expedia in Mexico, Microsoft, Fundacion Omar Dengo and Fundacion CRUSA in Costa Rica, UNDP in Egypt and Vietnam, Fundacion Chasquinet in Ecuador. He conducted training in strategic partnering and resource mobilization for civil society, foundations, government and development agencies.[2]
Alain Berranger was the Chair of ICANN's Not-For-Profit Operational Concerns Constituency (NPOC).[3] He was first appointed as the Acting Vice Chair by Amber Sterling when the constituency was first formed in 2011, after ICANN 41 in Singapore. Mr. Berranger later won the constituency's first election.
The GNSO Council and the ICANN community mourned his passing in late 2013 and released a statement praising his contributions to the community.[1]
Career History
Mr. Berranger was the Vice Chair of the Executive Committee at Global Knowledge Partnership foundation from 2009 to 2011. He also served as the Vice Chair at the Canadian Foundation for the Americas for 2 years,[4] and was the Director of Partnerships and Business Development for the International Development Research Center of the Canadian Government from 1996 to 2006. After completing his bachelors, he joined Noranda and had also worked for Touche Ross Daihatsu, Tecsult, as well as for Dominion Bridge.[5][6]
Alain Berranger has been listed in Who's Who in Canada since 2000.
Education
Barranger held an MBA and a B.Eng in Metallurgy from McGill University.
