Don Moody is an attorney with over 20 years experience in the technology industry, advising companies on intellectual property, financial regulation, data privacy and other legal topics.  Among other roles, Don served as lead Internet counsel for Skype from 2005-2012, and was on the "front lines" of the peer-to-peer music copyright wars in the early 2000s. Don has had extensive involvement with domain name and Internet Governance issues, including with ICANN on various committees, such as its Intellectual Property Constituency (IPC).

Don also represents and counsels financial technology (FinTech) companies - with particular emphasis on virtual currencies (such as Bitcoin or Ethereum) and other "blockchain"-based technologies - on topics such as financial privacy, including the Gramm-Leach Bliley Act (GLBA) and Paycard Data Security Standard (PCI-DSS); anti-money laundering compliance under the Bank Secrecy Act, USA Patriot Act and Office of Foreign Asset Control ("OFAC"); plus financial consumer protection laws such as CFPB Unfair & Deceptive Acts or Practices ("UDAAP") enforcement and Regulation E.

Mr. Moody is able to function as both a skilled contract draftsman and courtroom litigator, as client needs require.  On the transactional side, Don has drafted and negotiated a variety of technology-related agreements, including website terms-&-conditions and privacy policies, plus licensing agreements covering brands/trademarks, rights-of-publicity and software (open-source, proprietary or mixed). As a litigator, Don has served as trial advocate in federal and state (California) cases, in addition to commercial arbitration via a number of international forums, including the American Arbitration Association, the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and the National Arbitration Forum. He is also highly knowledgeable in matters involving online fraud and 'phishing' schemes, "big data" analytics, online privacy, enforcement of the CAN-SPAM Act (and/or its state law equivalents) and the efficient management and production of electronic evidence (e-discovery).

Don holds a number of academic degrees, industry certifications and licenses, along with involvement in various professional organizations. He obtained his law degree from UCLA, as well as a Master of Science in Computer Information Systems from Boston University. With respect to Intellectual Property, is a licensed patent attorney, and admitted to practice before the United States Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO). In the privacy sphere, Don is a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/US) and a Certified HIPAA Professional (CHP). Aside from his work with ICANN, Don is also a member of the Bitcoin Foundation.

As a lawyer, Mr. Moody is admitted in California, New York, Washington D.C., and the Supreme Court of the United States.
