GMO Registry offers assistance with the new gTLD application process which was approved by ICANN in 2008.

GMO Registry is the first such business in Japan;[1] and it is one of many businesses that make up the highly successful and diversified, GMO Internet Group.[2]

In November 20011, it was announced that the Tokyo Metropolitan Government had chosen to work with GMO Registry and its partner, Cloud Registry, on its proposed .tokyo gTLD.[3]

It is one of two applicants for .osaka. GMO Registry is listed as the applicant on 8 new gTLD applications and is the Registry Provider for 27 applications.[4][5]

April 2010 Contracted to provide backend registry operation and support services to the Federal Republic of Somalia for .so.

September 2011 Contracted to provide backend registry operation and support services to the Republic of Indonesia for .id.
November 2011 GMO Registry receives official support from the Tokyo metropolitan government for .tokyo top level domain.
