Henk Uijterwaal is a researcher and senior project manager on information technology. At present, he is the CEO at Uijterwaal BV. He is a member of the ICANN 2010 Nominating Committee and [1] IETF Trust, established in 2005 by the Internet Society, the Corporation for National Research Initiatives, the Internet Engineering Task Force, and its Initial Trustees to advance the education, science and technology related to the internet for public interest. The IETF Trust is responsible in acquiring, holding, maintaining and licensing certain existing and future intellectual property related to internet standards process and administration.[2] [3] Henk also serves as chairman of the IETF IP Performance Metrics (IPPM) Working Group and member of RIPE Test Traffic Working Group (TT-WG). The IETF IPPM WG is responsible in developing standard metrics that can be used to maintain the quality, performance, and reliability of Internet data delivery services [4] while the TT-WG is responsible in measuring the performance related parameters on the v4/v6 Internet.[5] Henk is also a former member of the IETF Administrative Oversight Committee (IAOC), which is responsible in overseeing the daily operations and responsibilities of the IETF Administrative Director (IAD) in providing fiscal and administrative support through other activities, contractors and volunteers.[6]
Education
Henk received his M. Sc. in Physics from the University of Utrecht. He also holds a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Amsterdam. He also holds certificates in Project Management, Agile Software Development, IT Service CMM, Project Leadership, Management and Communications, Finances for Non-Financial Managers, Professional Line Management and Introduction to Line Management.[7]
Career History
Henk held the following previous positions:[8]
- Teaching Assistant at the Physics Department of the University of Utrecht from 1985-1985
- Research Physicist at the University of Hamburg Second Institute for Experimental Physics in 1991
- Research Associate at the Physics Department of the Superconducting Super Collider Laboratory in Dallas, USA from 1992-1994
- Postdoctoral Research Associate at University of Oxford, UK. He was based at the Deutsches Electronen Synchrotron (DESY) laboratory in Hamburg, Germany from 1994- 1997.
- System Architect for RIPE NCC- Amsterdam from 1997-1998
- Manager of the “New Projects” Groep, RIPE NCC, Amsterdam from 1998-2006. One of his accomplishments was the development of the Test Traffic Measurement (TTM) service.
- Senior Project Manager at RIPE NCC (Réseaux IP Européen Network Coordination Centre)in Amsterdam from 2006-2011.
Other Activities
Henk is serves as Board Member and Tournament Director of the Dutch Bridge Federation and Chair, Rugbyclub “Betuwe”, Bemmel. He also wrote numerous papers regarding High Energy Physics and Internet related topis.[9]
