ICANN 8 was held in Melbourne Australia between the dates of 9th – 13th March 2001. All meetings throughout the event were free to attend, by any person that was interested in the topics discussed throughout the event. All meetings were held in the Melbourne Exhibition and Convention Centre (MECC).
The ICANN 8 event lasted for the duration of the five days it had been planned for, and like all ICANN Meetings, it was seen as a great success, as many people from the industry had turned up to say their problems and concerns. With the additon of these companies, it brings the total number of companies which have met the criteria for accreditation as .com, .net and .org registrars to 179. The Stability of the Internet and the continuity for consumers, are still protected by the requirement that every business which wish to become a accredited registrar in any top-level domains must first become accredited by the ICANN group[2].
Sessions
There were many meetings, which were schedualed to take place throughout ICANN 8, many of the meetings took place in various hotel rooms in the locaiton of the event, and covered several differnt topics, which were up for public discussion and dispute.[3]
