The India School on Internet Governance (inSIG) is an annual school planned to be held in different parts of India. The main objective of inSIG is to train various stakeholders in India in the area of Internet Governance, thus providing them skills to participate in Internet Governance process in India as well as Globally. inSIG has collaborations with various other Schools on Internet Governance across the world and is working closely with Asia Pacific School on Internet Governance (APSIG)[1]
Each year, applications are invited and after a competitive and heavy selection process, a fixed number of participants are selected for inSIG. The fellowships are also provided to participants who apply for fellowship and satisfy certain criteria.
Vision
- Motivate youth in India to get involved in Internet Governance processes in India;
- Make civil society more participative in Internet Governance issues;
- Create awareness about Internet Governance in India;
- Increase representation of India in various International Internet Governance debate spaces;
Editions
The editions of inSIG are:
- inSIG 2016
- inSIG 2017
The first edition of the India SIG was convened in Oct-Nov 2016 at IIIT Hyderabad, immediately prior to the ICANN57 meeting held at the same city. The event had 44 participants from 9 countries and 22 speakers from 12 countries.
The second edition, inSIG 2017 organized during 24-26 October 2017 at the Travancore Hall, Technopark, Trivandrum. It brought together about 73 participants (including 56 Indian and 6 International Fellows), and about 15 experts from India, and abroad including the Secretariat. A special run-up event aimed at equipping students and researchers to participate in the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) process was also conducted on 23 Oct 2017 as a run-up adjunct event to inSIG2017.
