Jeanette Hofmann is an expert on internet governance, she is a senior researcher on the subject at Wissenschaftszentrum Berlin für Sozialforschung (WZB) and also teaches at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin.[1] Dr. Hofmann is also an ESRC Research Officer at the Centre for Analysis of Risk and Regulation at the London School of Economics and Political Science.[2]
Her research interests include; uncertainty and risk, risk governance, transnational regulation and private authority, standard setting for information and communication technologies, domain interests, internet governance, regulation of knowledge (copyright law).[3][4]
Career & Industry Involvement
Dr. Hofmann was involved with ICANN as a researcher and as an "At Large Membership" Activist, just a few years after ICANN was founded. She was a European Candidate in ICANN's first online election in 2000. After which, she also worked with an NGO and Academic Science Group called NAIS, and from there became involved in ICANN's At Large Membership Structure. She served on ICANN's NomCom as a voting member in 2004 and 2005.[5]
She joined the WSIS Civil Society Internet Governance Caucus in 2003. Throughout 2004 and 2005 she served, together with Adam Peake, as co-coordinator of the caucus. During that same period, she was a member of the German delegation to the World Summit representing the German WSIS civil society coordination group.[6] In 2003, she was a member of the IETF's "problem statement" working group. She has been a member of the academic advisory board of the Federal Agency for Civic Education in Germany, and the Committee for Communication and Information of the German Chapter of UNESCO, since 2002.[7]
