Jennie Phillips is a PhD student at the University of Toronto's Munk School of Social Affairs as well as the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE).[1] She is writing her thesis on the integration of digital volunteerism into official emergency response efforts via social media and mobile technology,[2] and has researched online engagement of civil societies in crisis situations, with a focus on Volunteer Technical Communities. She aims to identify strategies in policy, training, and innovation that will bridge digital volunteerism with official emergency response efforts.[1]
She is a Citizen Lab Fellow, and attended ICANN 45 through Citizen Lab[2], which is an interdisciplinary laboratory based at the University of Toronto which focuses on research and development in digital media, global security, and human rights.[3]
