Joao Carlos Caribe has been a consultant for over ten years and is a human rights-related activist.[1] He currently works at Veredas as a Director of Society Projects, where he researches, designs, and develops social projects related to communication and social mobilization.[2]

Career History

Caribe's previous experience and expertise include a wide array of social networking-related activities for companies like Assembleia Legislativa do Rio de Janeiro and Buzz Marketing, as well as two of his own companies which are no longer operating, Dazibao Comunicacao and Arroba Brasil.

Other notable achievements include involvement in the IGF 2011, a project which brought public and political awareness to the issue of censorship on the internet. He also published an online petition in 2008 that collected more than 160,000 signatures against Bill 84/99 Cybercrime, and in 2009, was one of the creators in the Movement "Mega Não", which served as a public hub for coordination against internet censorship issues. It, for example, became the main coordinator against SOPA, rallying over 400 Brazilian sites to Blackout their sites on January 18 in opposition to the bill.[2]
