Karla Valente is the President and Co-Founder of DNS Women aka Domain Name System Women, an organization that aims to provide encouragement, inspiration, and active support of women in the DNS industry. The organization began at ICANN in Mexico in 2009. She is also a member of the Board of Directors at Schola Cantorum.[1]
Valente worked for ICANN from September 2007 to November 2013, initially holding a role as Director of Product Services and Communications, then Director of the new gTLD Program, then finally as the Director of gTLD Registry Programs.[2]
Education
Karla holds an MA in International Relations and International Public Law from the University of Amsterdam and a Bachelor of Law (JD) from Brazil. She speaks several languages, including with fluency in Portuguese and English, professional working proficiency in French, and some proficiency in Polish, Spanish, and Dutch.[1]

Additionally, she served as in-house co-counsel for international IP issues, supported the company's acquisition and transition processes of intellectual property assets. Prior to joining the TLD industry, Valente assisted companies with international expansion planning and provided cross-cultural communications training.
