The ICANN Language Services team supports the development of the Information Transparency Initiative (ITI) framework, including a streamlined ticketing system that integrates with ITI authoring function and automates processing for the most common translation requests, which was previously completed manually by content authors. As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Language Services team has shifted its focus to identifying and implementing an interpretation solution for the ICANN virtual meetings. At ICANN 68, full remote interpretation was made available for the first time, using the remote simultaneous interpretation (RSI) platform, which allowed the team to provide interpretation in all six United Nations languages plus Portuguese.[1]

The Language Services team includes 29 contracted interpreters, five Language Expert-Head Interpreters, a specific interpretation technical team of four RSI experts, all working remotely from Argentina, Australia, Brazil, China, France, Singapore, Spain, and the United States. The main RSI platform was set up in Australia with a replica in Singapore as a contingency for potential connectivity issues.
