Network Startup Resource Center - NSRC is an organizattion working for the development and deployment of Internet throughout Asia/Pacific, Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, the Middle East, and the New Independent States. It main focus is deployment of internet in the academic institutes and non governmental organizations. It provides assistance to the teams working for the betterment of global internet. NSRC provides a platform for international communication between institutes, scientist, engineers and researchers. Engineers working with NSRC are always trying to make this communication easier and more accessible.[1]

NSRC gets the basic funding from National Science Foundation - NSF. Other donors are Carnegie Mellon, Cisco Systems, FreeBSD Mall, Google, IDRC, ISOC, O'Reilly, Richard Karp, Vint Cerf, and the University of Oregon.[2] Recently Google has contributed $1.5 Million to the center.[3]

History

They gradually moved on to other countries and provided network connectivity to Egypt, Indonesia, Kenya, Liberia, Morocco, Peru, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Togo, and assistance to many others. They build their centers in local universities and help people establish their own network and connect to the outside world.[4] Since its birth NSRC has provided assistance to build first ever network of:

  • Peru in 1991.
  • Egyptian Universities in 1993.
  • Africa in 1994.
  • Sri Lankan Engineers in 1995.
  • Tanzania in 1996.
  • Togo in 1997.

Events

NSRC arranges workshops, seminars, technical training and short courses all around the world for those who are interested in networking. It collaborates with APTLD[8], ICANN and ISOC[9] for their meetings. NSRC will be participating in ICANN42, ISOC INET Cotonou meeting, SANOG 18, WALC 2011 and PacNOG 10 this year. A complete list of upcoming events can be found here. Besides this NSRC has regularly been arranging workshops and hands-on training courses of networking since 1990.
