Sebastian Castro Avila represented Latin America on the ccNSO's IANA Work Group.[1] He currently works as a DNS expert at .nz Registry Services.[2] He formerly worked at NIC Chile,[3] and represented the organization at ICANN meetings, and workshops.[4] Mr.Castro worked with The Cooperative Association of Internet and Data Analysis to run tests on the NIC Chile's servers; this infomration was able to provide CAIDA with valuable information regarding the stability and condition of the DNS.[5]

Career History

Sebastian Castro has worked at NIC Chile as a DNS Administrator, at CAIDA as a DNS analyst, and as an Instructor.[6][7] He worked at NIC Chile from 1997 to 2007; in that time he saw the company grow from 4 employees (including himself) to 30, and went from managing the automated registration system as a Professor's assistant, to more varied and complicated tasks.[8]

In 2006, Sebastian spent 6 weeks in Japan for training courses funded by JICA.[9]

He has taught courses on Data Communications, Operating Systems, and Network Security, at the University of Chile and elsewhere.[10]

He regularly attends industry events, both as a participant and a presenter.[11]

Education

Sebastian received a M.Sc. degree in Computer Science from the University of Chile, focusing on computer networks and the methodologies necessary to create realistic Internet-wide simulations applied to anycast deployment.[12]

Personal

Sebastian lived his entire life in Santiago, before taking a position in 2007 in San Diego, USA; he has subsequently moved to New Zealand. He is married with two children, and is glad to see his children learning English as a second language.[13] A more exhaustive biography can be found on his website.
