History

Term Sify was coined from Satyam Infoway Ltd. Sify started providing internet services right away when it was made public by government sector. The company has earned a sound name in development of basic internet services in India. By providing corporate connectivity services in 1998 Sify became the first company to use TCP/IP network structure. Later on it introduced dial up, broadband and wireless to become first ISP of the country. Sify is first IVPN service provider in India along with being first to set up ATM framework and providing services of Multi-Protocol Label Switching MPLS. It now runs over 3000 cybercafes and 1227 operational e-ports across the country and provides its IT, networking and software services at all levels be it enterprise or individual.[4]


Subsidiaries

Sify Software Limited, Sify Technologies (Singapore) Pte. Ltd., and Sify International Inc. are its wholly owned businesses. Besides these Sify runs online portals like www.sify.com, www.samachar.com and www.sifymax.in. It also offers e-learning software for its customers.[5]


Awards and Achievments

  • Sify was placed at number 13 in Dataquest 's Top 20 Best Employers survey in India.[6]
  • It has the honor of being first Indian Internet company to be listed on the Nasdaq National Market in the US.[7]
  • It is rated in top 5 IT, ITES and ICT companies in User Choice Club 2010 survey of India.[8]
  • In October 2000, Sify was voted the ‘Company of the Year’ at the Silicon India Annual Technology and Entrepreneurship Conference in San Jose, California, USA.[9]
  • Fortune magazine, selected Sify as one of the world's ten hot technology companies to watch out for, in December 2000 issue.[10]

Since its incorporation Sify has won quite a good number of awards. It has been constantly showing up for Brandon Hall awards since 2006.[11]
