Steve Metalitz is the Senior Vice President of the International Intellectual Property Alliance (IIPA),[1] a coalition of U.S. trade associations that represents over 1,900 companies producing and distributing materials protected by copyright laws throughout the world. At IIPA he focuses protecting the copyright in electronic and print media and execution of the WIPO Internet laws. He has been counsel to IIPA since 1994.[2]
Metalitz is a partner at Smith & Metalitz law firm. He specializes in intellectual property, privacy and e-commerce sectors. He chairs the IPC. He is a member of the District of Columbia and South Carolina bars.[3]
Education
He has degrees from the University of Chicago (A.B. with honors) and Georgetown University Law Center (J.D.).[4]

Steve has worked as counsel for the Creative Incentive Coalition, and had a significant role in the development of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act of 1998. Since its inception in 1999, he has also served as counsel to the Copyright Coalition on Domain Names.[5] He has represented virtually all copyright industry groups in each of the four Copyright Office rulemaking proceedings held pursuant to the DMCA since 2000.[6]
