URL stand for Universal Resource Locator and is the full string of characters (web address) that is typed into a browser in order to find a given page on the Internet. It is different from a domain name because it also contains the type of protocol used to access the resource, such as, [[http]] or [[ftp]] and also additional intructions such as a particular directory.
