Uniregistry is a new registry operator established and managed by a group of experts in the internet and domain name industry. The company's technical infrastructure is designed and maintained by the Internet Systems Consortium (ISC), a non profit organization dedicated in developing and distributing open source software worldwide and involved in the development of DNS, DNSSEC, IPv6, and BIND. The company was launched on June 11, 2012 and it is headed by its Managing Director Frank Schilling, one of the world's largest domain name portfolio owner. [1] [2]
New gTLD Applications
Uniregistry has applied for several new gTLDs to the New gTLD Program of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers. During the launching of the company Schilling refused to reveal the exact number and names of the domain name strings the company has applied for. According to him, the gTLDs were selected by the company's founders and they have a market. He is confident that the gTLDs will be successful. He said, "We strongly believe in the gTLDs we have chosen and are 100% committed to their long-term success. These new names look better, sound better, and represent a big opportunity for brands to market themselves on the Internet in a different way." The strings pursued by Uniregistry will be known during ICANN's Big Reveal Day on June 13. [3]
Frank Schilling reported confirmed that he invested $60 million in his company and it is pursuing 54 gTLDs including the .lol and .home. Schilling knew that both strings are highly desirable and will definitely auctioned by ICANN. Google previously announced that its application for the .lol and GoDaddy and other companies also applied for .home domain name string. Schilling said that his company will try to acquire the strings through auction. [4]
