University of Cyprus is the organization which manages the .cy ccTLD for Cyprus. During the year 2005 and after the establishment of the Office of the Commissioner of Eletronic Communications and Postal Regulations (OCECPR), the Registry was placed under the jurisdiction of OCECPR.[1]
Registrations for .cy domain names are limited to Cyprus residents and registered companies/organizations. .com.cy is unrestricted to Cypriot entities, though there are various restrictions for other .cy subdomains. .ac.cy, for example, is for academic and research institutions; .net.cy is for internet and network service providers; .gov.cy is for governmental institutions; and so on.[2]
In 2006, in cooperation with JCC in Cyprus, an electronic payments system was introduced. In 2008, in conjunction with the Euro as the new currency of Cyprus, a decrease on registration fees for .cy domains was introduced.[1]
