Mauricia Cindy Abdol

Abdol is a Social Enterprenuer and Social Scientist from Cape Town, South Africa. She is an Africa School of Internet Governance Alumna and ICANN NextGen participant with a keen interest in promoting diversity within the Multi-Stakeholder Model of the ICANN.

Currently pursuing a Masters Degree in Child and Family Studies. Abdol has a B.A Degree in Psychology, Women & Gender Studies and Language & Communication, as well as an Honours Degree in Psychology.

She serves as Secretary-General at Waumbe Youth Development and is an Innovation scholar at the National Research Foundation. As a Social Entrepreneur through Waumbe Youth Development, Abdol has developed an educational support program that encourages innovative thinking by marrying academic excellence and digital literacy to be implemented in 2017.

Abdol is also an alum of the International Center for Missing and Exploited Children’s internship program. An organization dedicated to making the world a safer place for children by eradicating child abduction, sexual abuse and exploitation with specialized projects addressing child protection against cyber crime and legislation around data retention.

Abdol is passionate about human development in Africa, innovation and the protection of human rights online. Specifically advocating for children’s rights and the rights of youth in the developing world online in terms of the right to access for the under-served and the right to safety online for children and youth.
