.ky is the ccTLD for the Cayman Islands, a self-governing British Overseas Territory. It is managed by the Utility Regulation and Competition Office (OfReg).[1]

Rules and Restrictions[edit | edit source]

The .ky domain is an Open Use ccTLD. The decision to open the domain was made in 2015.[2]

A .ky Domain Name shall not be used:

  • for the display, sale, marketing or distribution of pornographic material or alcohol;
  • for gambling or the promotion of gambling;
  • for the bulk distribution of unsolicited e-mail (SPAM); and,
  • to defraud, abuse, annoy, threaten or harass any other person.[3]

Usage[edit | edit source]

The potential for domain hacking words or names ending in -ky notwithstanding, the domain is relatively unused. In March 2021, the domain had approximately 6,500 active registrations. As of 2024, the domain passed the 8,000 mark.[4]
