Philip S. Corwin is a Founding Principal at VirtuaLaw LLC; he founded the company over a decade ago and in that time he has also worked as a Partner at Butera & Andrews,[1] and as the Counsel for the Internet Commerce Association, and Of Counsel for Greenberg & Lieberman, LLC.[2][3][4][5][6] According to a Press Release of March, 2011, Corwin is joining Greenberg & Lieberman, LLC in Of Counsel capacity.[7]

He has been representing the Internet Commerce Association for a number of years at ICANN meetings and at other industry fora.

Legal Background[edit | edit source]

Mr. Corwin has more than thirty years of experience in the legal industry.[8] He specialises in bankruptcy, financial services, intellectual property, and electronic commerce law.[9] His clients have included Information Technology Association of America, First Virtual Holdings, PenOp, MP3.com, CenterSpan Communications, Sharman Networks Limited (Kazaa), and the Internet Commerce Association.

Before Mr. Corwin joined Buerta & Andrews, he was a Government Relations Director at the American Bankers Association. He was also a member of the United States Senate professional staff.

He is also a member of many American Bar Association Committees. He has also served as the Chairman of the Business Law Section’s Committee on Legislation.

He was admitted to law practice in Massachusetts in 1975; District of Columbia in 1976; US Supreme Court in 1994.[10]

Industry Participation[edit | edit source]

Mr. Corwin was a speaker at a workshop about domain name tasting at an ICANN meeting in Sao Paulo, Brazil. He has served in ICANN's Business Constituency and the Registration Abuse Policy Working Group.[11]

He has lectured on technology-related legislative and regulatory initiatives at platforms like Glasser Legalworks’ E-Commerce Law School and the Practicing Law Institute’s Internet Law Institute, as well as at programs of the American Bar Association and the District of Columbia Bar.

ICA[edit | edit source]

Mr. Corwin has been vital to the success of the non-profit, Internet Commerce Association. When his contract expired at the end of 2009, the possibility of him not continuing to represent the ICA to ICANN and beyond during such a critical time for a variety of developments was labelled "disastrous".[12] He has since returned to representing the body.

He holds a B.A in Government from Cornell University. He did his JD from Boston College Law School.
