The .ae domain was originally delegated to [[UUNET]], but after a brief period of administration by the United Arab Emirates University, was transferred to [[Etisalat]] in 2005, with the recognition that the domain should be administered within the country. Since that time, Etisalat, through its division in the UAEnic, has been responsible for the operation of the domain name.
