Carlos Afonso is the Head of Technological Development of RITS.[1] In the field of Internet Governance, he specializes in ICANN.[2]
Career History
- He played an important role in democratizing the access to communications in Brazil.
- He, with the help Herbert de Souza founded IBASE.[3]
- He also had a role in designing and implementing the AlterNex, the first internet server of Brazil.
- He proposed and supervised UNCED in 1991.
- Carlos Afonso co-founded APC in 1990.[4]
- From 1997-1998, he served as APC's first chair.
- He has been working at RITS for 11 years.
Publications
He has written many books and articles for internet development in different languages. [5]
Awards
Mr. Afonso was awarded the ARede 2008 Award.[6]
