The term Sify was coined from Satyam Infoway Ltd. Sify started providing Internet services immediately after it went public. The company has earned a reputation for leading development of basic Internet services in India. By providing corporate connectivity services in 1998, Sify became the first Indian company to use [[TCP/IP]] network structure. Later on, it introduced dial up, broadband and wireless to become first [[ISP]] in the country. Sify is the first [[IVPN]] service provider in India, and also the first to set up ATM framework and provide services for Multi-Protocol Label Switching [[MPLS]].
