Croatian Academic and Research Network (CARNet) is the registry operator for the .hr ccTLD for Croatia. Initially a project of the Ministry of Science and Technology, it was spun off as a separate institution in 1995 by the Croatian government to administer the ccTLD.[1] The University Computing Center of University of Zagreb provided administrative and technical support ro the registry until 2010, when CARNet took over most of the work.[2]

.hr[edit | edit source]

The .hr domain is an Open Use ccTLD, with restrictions on registration. Only .com.hr domain names can be registered by foreign entities.[3] CARNet offers free .hr domains to Croatian business entities and resident individuals engaged in business, and free from.hr domains to Croatian residents. At the end of 2020, the domain had approximately 112,000 active registrations. Nearly two-thirds of the active registrations are free .hr and from.hr registrations.[4]
