.dz

.dz is the ccTLD for Algeria. The letters "dz" come from the local name for Algeria, Dzayer. It is managed by the Centre de Recherche sur l'Information Scientifique et Technique (CERIST).

Rules and Restrictions

The following are eligible for the registration or renewal of a domain name under .dz domain:

• entities established in Algeria or having a legal representation in Algeria, or possessing a document justifying name ownership rights in Algeria;
• individuals residing in Algeria and possessing a document justifying name ownership rights in Algeria.

Some terms are prohibited:

• the domain name must not be offensive or vulgar;
• the domain name must not be deceptive or misleading;
• the domain name must not have a character that is contrary to morality;
• a certain number of names cannot be assigned even if the request fully meets the criteria mentioned above. This includes names of regions, countries, cities, professions, generic names, and the names or first names of individuals or public figures.

Second-level Domains

In addition to the .dz domain, NIC-DZ manages the following second-level domains:

• .com.dz: for commercial entities;
• .gov.dz: for governmental entities;
• .org.dz: for non-governmental and non-commercial organizations;
• .edu.dz: for entities involved in education and training;
• .asso.dz: for registered associations;
• .pol.dz: for political parties;
• .art.dz: for artistic professions;
• .net.dz: for entities operating in the field of the Internet;
• .tm.dz: for legal entities residing abroad, owners of trademarks protected in Algeria, but not possessing documentation proving activity or presence in Algeria;
• .soc.dz: for individuals residing in Algeria, owners of trademarks protected in Algeria, who are not engaged in commercial activity (do not possess a commercial registration).

Characters

Each domain name must strictly comply with naming conventions, derived from technical or administrative constraints, in order to ensure a logical organization of the .dz zone:

• the domain name must contain a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 24 characters;
• the domain name must be composed solely of the characters: 'a' to 'z', '0' to '9', and the symbol '-' (hyphen);
• the domain name must not consist only of numbers;
• the symbol '-' (hyphen) cannot be used in the initial or final position;
• the characters used for names must be in lowercase only, as domain names are not case-sensitive.
