.sx is the ccTLD for Sint Maarten. It is managed by SX Registry SA B.V.[1]
Delegation History[edit | edit source]
In October 2010, the Netherlands Antilles split into three separate territories.. The .an ccTLD was to be decommissioned, and three new TLDs delegated, ".cw", ".bq" and ".sx".
On 29 November 2011, the Board of ICANN voted to delegate .sx to SX Registry, a joint venture of Luxembourg registry startup OpenRegistry and Canadian registrar MediaFusion.[2]
On 27 November 2017, SX Registry S.A transitioned their registry operations from OpenRegistry to CIRA's Fury Registry Platform.
Rules and Restrictions[edit | edit source]
Every natural person or organization can register a .sx domain name.[3]
When applying for a domain name, the applicant must warrant that:
- to its knowledge, the registration of the Domain Name mentioned in the Application or Domain Name Registration Request will not infringe upon or otherwise violate the rights of any third party;
- it is not submitting the Application or Domain Name Registration Request and, upon registration, will not use the Domain Name for an unlawful purpose, contrary to public policy or morality, for offensive purposes, to mislead the public and/or contrary to good and fair business practices; and
- it will not knowingly use the domain name in violation of any applicable laws or regulations, including third party interests.[4]
Reserved and Premium Domain Names[edit | edit source]
Restricted Domain Names are names whose use is restricted for various reasons. Such reasons may be that the Domain Name represents a protected organizations' names, features, services or simply that it is a banned Domain Name. It may also be reserved for future internal use of the registry.
Premium and Reserved Domain Names are Domain Names that are sold at a higher price due to their high traffic value.[3]
Characters[edit | edit source]
Every Domain Name must meet the following technical and syntax requirements:
- the label must consist exclusively of the letters a-z (case insensitive), the hyphen "-" and the numbers 0-9;
- the Domain Name cannot begin or end with a hyphen ("-");
- the Domain Name cannot have two consecutive hyphens ("--") in the 3rd and 4th positions;
- underline characters are not allowed;
- the Domain Name cannot exceed 63 characters (excluding the TLD);
- the Domain Name must have a minimum length of 3 characters.[4]
