[[ICANN]] has taken over the functions of the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority ([[IANA]]), which was originally established by DARPA. IANA was originally a research project handled by the Information Sciences Institute ("ISI") at the USC School of Engineering, under a contract awarded by DARPA.
