.afrique is a potential new GeoTLD in ICANN's new gTLD Program. The organization AfTLD has expressed an intent to apply for .africa, and consequently has noted that "We are not just interested in .africa only, but we want to also take on .afrique, which is the French version of .africa. It’s only natural for us to do this because at least 50% of Africa speaks French.”[1] It is unclear if they actually intend to apply or merely have an interest in the extension.

The english version, .africa, is one of the most intensely and publicly sought after TLDs; AfTLD is preparing a bid for that extension. it is unclear if .afrique will face the same competition as .africa
