.nz is the ccTLD for New Zealand. It is managed by InternetNZ.[1]
Rules and Restrictions[edit | edit source]
A person can apply to register a .nz domain name if the person is an identifiable individual over the age of 18 or lawfully constituted entity.
The applicant must guarantee that the applicant warrants that
- they are entitled to register the domain name as requested;
- registering the proposed .nz domain name would not infringe any other parties' rights;
- their registration will be governed by New Zealand law.[2]
Second-level Domains[edit | edit source]
There are two categories of second-level domains, the unmoderated and the moderated.
The unmoderated SLDs available are:
- .ac.nz
- .co.nz
- .geek.nz
- .gen.nz
- .kiwi.nz
- .maori.nz
- .net.nz
- .org.nz
- .school.nz
The moderated SLDs available are:
- .cri.nz
- .govt.nz
- .health.nz
- .iwi.nz
- .mil.nz
- .parliament.nz[2]
Characters[edit | edit source]
To be registered on the .nz Register, a domain name must use only lowercase letters (a-z), digits (0-9) and the '-' hyphen. A .nz domain name can use vowel letters with a macron (ā, ē, ī, ō, ū) in addition to the characters. However, a domain name must not:
- be longer than 63 characters;
- use a hyphen as the third or fourth character unless it is an IDN (Internationalised Domain Name);
- end in any of the following suffixes and their IDN versions that might mislead or confuse: ".gov.nz", ".government.nz", ".com.nz", ".edu.nz", ".nic.nz".[2]
