Croatian Academic and Research Network (CARNet) is the registry operator for the .hr ccTLD for Croatia. Initially a project of the Ministry of Science and Technology, it was spun off as a separate institution in 1995 by the Croatian government to administer the ccTLD.[1] The University Computing Center of University of Zagreb provided administrative and technical support ro the registry until 2010, when CARNet took over most of the work.[2]

At the end of 2020, the domain had approximately 112,000 active registrations. Nearly two-thirds of the active registrations are free .hr and from.hr registrations.[4]
